Devra Movie Review: Did the Movie Meet Expectations?
Today, we’ll discuss the much-anticipated film Devra Part One, which I watched at the Mumbai theatre. Despite being an 8:30 AM show, the theatre was almost full, showing that people came with high expectations. But the question is, did the film live up to those expectations? Let’s discuss this in detail.

Devra Movie Review |
Promotion and Storyline
When the teaser and trailer for Devra were released, I didn’t judge the movie too quickly, as I usually don’t evaluate films based on their promotional material. Sometimes, movies turn out better than expected. However, once I started watching the film and the storyline began to unfold, I was a bit confused. The story was fresh and new, but the presentation lacked finesse.
Flaws in Action and Cinematography
The movie features large-scale action sequences, but they didn’t seem as impressive on the big screen. Particularly, the ocean-based action scenes failed to capture the intensity they were aiming for. The essence of the movie is somewhat lost when watched on the big screen. Many of the action sequences felt highly unrealistic, which could disappoint the audience.
Masala Pattern and Emotional Connection
Devra follows the typical “masala” formula, with themes like father-son emotions, friendship, rivalry, family drama, and even romance. Janhvi Kapoor’s role is limited to adding glamour, and she appears only for that. Honestly, her song was the most enjoyable part of her role.
Saif Ali Khan’s Impressive Performance
Saif Ali Khan’s negative role was the most impressive performance in the film. His portrayal of a character with negative shades was perfect. However, there was a lack of emotional connection between the characters, which made it hard for the audience to fully engage. One reason for this could be the long runtime, with the first half almost entirely spent on the build-up, making the film feel too lengthy.
Music and Background Score
Anirudh’s music is a big plus for the movie. His compositions perfectly match the film’s theme, and there’s nothing to fault in that department. The music helps enhance both the emotional and action scenes, making the film slightly better.
Cliffhanger and the Second Part
The movie ends with a twist involving Devra and his son. The man standing in the fire is a twist that works to some extent, providing a surprise factor for the audience. It may even leave viewers excited for the next part of the film.
Overall Verdict
Overall, Devra is an average film. It doesn’t live up to everyone’s expectations, but some viewers may appreciate the storyline and music. However, most of the key scenes were already shown in the trailer, reducing the excitement of watching it in the theatre.
Should You Watch It in Theatres?
If you’re planning to watch it with your family, Devra is a family-friendly movie that you can enjoy without worry. However, if you have high expectations, you might be left disappointed. I’d give this movie 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Conclusion
Devra is an entertaining yet average film. Apart from some good music and a twist, there’s nothing extraordinary about it. If you’ve already seen it, let us know your thoughts. Until then, let’s wait for the next part and see what’s in store for us.
